YEAR 2000 saw history being made on the Beacon Isle Volleyball Court
Following fifteen years of defeat at the hands of the BI Entertainment team, the WEEK 49 TIMESHARE GUESTS (you may call them the BI 49'ers) planned a specific strategy to put the entertainment team down. Training included eating Elie's pasta and oxtail, Tony's (Enterprise) sausage and Breggie's pudding.
In an unprecedented and skilful manoeuvre, Ryan came out from New York in the USA accompanied by his sister and motivational advisor, Caryn from Cape Town. This masterful strategic stroke saw Ryan elected as Captain of the team, now with an International flavour. With Elie's recent visit to Greece and Martin's consultations in the Comores Islands, the entertainment team, being local, were flawed.

Serving left-handed, both underarm as well as forehand, Ryan led his team to a three-nil lead before serve changed hands. Duly flustered, as is common, the entertainment team (led by Chris for the past few years) overplayed their hand and served into the sea, narrowly missing the resident seal.
To spare the entertainment team further agony, and in the interests of future happy weeks at the BI, we shall cut this story short. It is a matter of truth that the game was won by the guests. In modesty, we profess that it was a "whitewash" in which the entertainment team was rather lucky to get nil. The record stands, proudly.
Chris and his team were devastated. Their carefully-nurtured record and down-spin service were broken. It is a matter of public record that General Manager Marc Gavrill returned to the premises a day early from his vacation. Nobody will say that these two facts are related.
International telephone lines hummed, Peter and Paul played in the Sea Lounge and there was a great festive air in the resort. It is an undisputed fact that had the team not eaten at Tropical Breeze at various stages then this page might not have existed.
Unconfirmed rumour has it that Ryan will return to the USA with this highly credible victory to add to his beach rugby skills. He refuses to be drawn on the subject of including professionalism (at 7.7 Rand to the Dollar) into next year's exchange. Other players confirmed the fact that the Entertainment team has approached the Beacon Isle resort with regard to cancelling next year's 49 and replacing it with two week 48's.
